Isabel Fuentes

    Acting (2021)

Isabel is a Queer, Latinx theatre artist and storyteller. She was born in Ottawa but calls Chile home as her experiences growing up there deeply influence her work. Isabel is curious about the physicalization of culture and lived experience, as well as how language influences stories. At the centre of her artistry is a drive to create passionate, challenging, and intellectual work.

In her time at the National Theatre School, she has collaborated with a myriad of professionals including: Jackie Maxwell, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Marla McLean, Graeme Somerville, Tim Welham, Anita Nittoly, and ahdri zhina mandiela. Their mentorship has shaped the development of Isabel’s artistic voice and integrity. Her most recent NTS productions have given her the opportunity to hone her performance and creation skills in shows such as 365 Days/365 Plays (dir. Alisa Palmer), Indecent (dir. Mike Payette), and she looks forward to working on the production, Everybody, and to the New Words Festival in 2021.

Isabel is excited to blur the boundaries between different art forms and redefine Canadian and South American storytelling practices. In addition to her work as a theatre artist, Isabel is utilizing her passion for cooking to explore the stories that live in food and cuisine, as well as honouring her roots in activism.
