Tom Giroux

    Residencies (2023)

    Tom Giroux is a multidisciplinary artist from Alberta who came to NTS after a decade of working in the arts industry as a lighting technician. His goals at NTS were to transition towards the roles of Technical Director and Lighting Designer. He seeks the moments where humanity and technology enhance each other to create transformative performances.

    Tom obtained a diploma in theatre production from Grant MacEwan University, before going to the Banff Centre as a lighting practicum for two and a half years. He then spent time as head of lighting for both the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre and Alberta Ballet.

    Through his time at the National Theatre School, Tom is thankful to have met and worked with outstanding mentors: Andrea Lundy, Daniel Bennet, Noah Feaver, Kaileigh Krysztofiak, Leigh Ann Vardy, Michelle Ramsay, Autumn Coppaway, Janice Fraser, and many others.

    Notable recent productions include Metamorphoses (Technical Direction) and Middletown (Lighting Designer).

    Select skills include: bilingual French and English, Vectorworks digital drafting and design, theatrical and arena rigging, ETC Eos programming for both live and pre-programmed shows, Entertainment networks, Lightwright 6, and carpentry and construction in both wood and metal.
