Mara Teare

    Acting (2021)

    Mara Teare is a Saskatoon-raised, Sri Lankan-Canadian actor, singer, writer, and creator. Through her art and work, she strives to create and be a part of spaces with a strong presence of marginalized voices. Being a woman of colour, Mara is passionate about bringing acting and theatre to other young women of colour. Just as theatre has given her a voice, she wishes to inspire and uplift others like her through the power of theatre.

    During her time at NTS, Mara has had the wonderful opportunity of working with such teachers and mentors as Martha Burns (Play Study), Tim Welham (Shakespeare), ahdri zhina mandiela (Collective Creation), Anita Nittoly and David Chinchilla (Stage Combat), Brenda Bazinet (Canadian Scene Study), and Jackie Maxwell (Chekhov). She has also performed in many productions including Plays Over Days (dir. Alisa Palmer), The Most Offending Soul Alive - as presented on Zoom (dir. Danielle Irvine) and Indecent (dir. Mike Payette).

    Outside of NTS, Mara has had the opportunity to work with a variety of professional companies. Select theatre credits include: The Young Ones, with Sum Theatre (dir. Joel Bernbaum), An Online Reading of The Tempest, with Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan (dir. Yvette Nolan). Select film credits include: The Tipping Point (Royal Bull Films) and Pieces: Camp (Floor Thirteen Films).
